Work placements provide a vital introduction into the industry
We offer students a chance to secure work placement, with the majority of level 8 students leaving with a placement. Our graduation survey showed that 87% of our graduates thought this gave them a distinct advantage in gaining full-time employment.
First college to be accredited with the Chartered Use of Forensic Sciences
All our programmes are accredited by various bodies such as Science Foundation Ireland meaning students are getting the best, industry-led education.
We have a 1 to 16 teaching practical ratio
We keep our class numbers to a minimum –This ensures students have the opportunity to engage with their lecturer and fellow classmates and are supported throughout their learning.

Meet the Head of Faculty
Dr. Jerry Bird first came to IT Sligo in 1995 as a lecturer and became Head of the Science Faculty in 2009. Jerry holds a PhD in Genetics from NUIG and worked in the National Diagnostic Centre in NUIG as a research scientist. Prior to IT Sligo, he was a lecturer in IT Tallaght. Jerry has researched for and contributed to numerous scientific books and journals over the last 30 years.
